A native Mandarin speaker and qualified UK teacher
I am a native Chinese speaker. I taught in a secondary school in China for seven years, then spent seven years teaching in the UK, from nursery and primary to secondary and adults. I trained at UCL and currently teach Mandarin in a UK school. I am familiar with exam board marking criteria and speaking exam requirements, so I know what is expected.
Qualifications
Trained and qualified in the UK
PGCE from UCL, with QTS
I trained as a teacher at UCL and hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I know the UK curriculum and exam requirements, and I plan lessons with clear goals, plenty of practice and useful feedback, so every learner knows how to improve.
Enhanced DBS and safeguarding
I am Enhanced DBS checked and safeguarding trained. Lessons with under-18s follow school safeguarding practice, and parents or guardians make the booking.
Experience
Fourteen years, from nursery to adults
Seven years in China
I taught in a secondary school in China for seven years, which gave me a deep understanding of how Chinese is learned and taught.
Nursery and primary in the UK
I taught Chinese in UK primary schools and nurseries for three years. I know how to use songs, games, stories and real-life activities so that young children enjoy Chinese and want to come back for more.
Secondary: GCSE, IB and A Level
I currently teach Mandarin in a UK secondary school, preparing students for GCSE and IB Mandarin. In school I have also taught A Level Mandarin and HSK 4, and I know the requirements of the other HSK levels well. I have conducted GCSE and IB speaking exams, and I am familiar with exam board marking criteria and speaking exam requirements.
Tutoring and adults
I have also tutored A Level and IGCSE Chinese, as well as adult learners, from complete beginners to people preparing for HSK, travel, work or Business Chinese.

How I teach
Tailored, engaging lessons
Each lesson is adapted to the learner's level, interests and goals, with games, real-life tasks and plenty of speaking, so students stay motivated and make steady progress. For exam students, we practise with exam-style question types, timings and mark criteria.
I am based in the UK and teach online worldwide, with in-person lessons also available in Kent. I also run Mandarin clubs and culture workshops for schools.
